BIO: UPDATE: Please do not let her Addison's scare you off, it's a very inexpensive drug to keep her on, what she'll give you in love and devotion is worth a low cost drug. Please e mail me if you have any further questions or fill out the online adoption application.
You will have to simply buying monthly prednisone and have to send off her blood work a few times a year for Addison's disease. She would also need to be crated when you are not with her because she does not like to be lift alone and can be destructive. But if you are home she will let you know when she is hungry!! Her potty training is going well unless it's raining.
Misty came from Clarksville, TN where we were told she wandered up in someone’s yard and the lady looked for the owner but none was to be found. She couldn’t keep her so we were contacted.
What we know about Misty is we feel she is unsocialized or was mistreated because when you go to pick her up and she thinks she’s in trouble she’ll submissive pee. She is skittish and will try to escape you but if you give her time she’ll learn to trust you. She will not be an easy adoption BUT if you want to truly save a dachshund this would be the one you’d want to save and teach her that people are not bad only some. She loves to lay out in the shade on a sunny day and spends a lot of time outside so she must have a fenced in yard, no exception. She would do best with a doggie door too but if you don’t have one then frequent trips outside will work. She also would do best with another dachshund so she can learn from them. Please consider giving this little girl a forever home but remember she’s going to take some work but she’s well worth it!!
If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If they choose transporting by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, there will be an additional $35 Fee for the required Health Certificate.
We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this you need to take this up with your legislatures.
We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of 35.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another 35.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.
To understand the adoption process through AADR please visit the Adoption Information. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.
If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.
