Why is AADR Special?
Why Do We Need Your Help?
We are a 501(c)(3) organization established in 2004
AADR doesn't go searching for young, cute, healthy dachshunds. In fact, if we did that, we would not need your help so desperately! When a shelter calls us, it is usually to say there is a senior dog abandoned by the owner, or perhaps a pregnant dachshund left in the shelter drop box during the night. Sometimes because a dog is so frightened it is snapping at workers and will be euthanized rather than placed for adoption. Other times it is a dog so sick that it likely won’t live long if it stays. Sometimes our dachshunds come from breeders who have ”used up” all the female dog has to give. More frequently, we get heartworm positive dogs. When these calls come in, the closest available member goes into action. The first stop for these dogs is the vet’s office where they can rack up hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars in vet bills often in their first day in rescue.
Thank you for saving needy dachshunds!

AADR Does Not Turn Away These Dogs
We have their heartworms treated. We take care of their neglected
mouths, that are often so rotten that the dogs are left toothless.
We have them spayed or neutered. We fix their broken legs.
We have their damaged eyes and mammary tumors removed.
We treat their heart failure, and even rehabilitate the "down in the back” dogs after surgery.
All of this costs money. Money we never recoup.
