BIO: Gunter is a retired breeder dog that came to us from NC. He was a little skittish when first coming to us but with time and patience he has blossomed. One thing we know when going to his new home the adopters will have to have patience with him until he gets used to his new home. The 3-3-3 rule applies, ask us about that and we will explain if you do not know about it and that is with any dog coming from rescue or a shelter.
Gunter LOVES squeaky toys and will carry them around like a prized find. So be prepared to hear hm squeak it for a while but catching him while he has it could take a while. He truly is a delight to have as a foster!
With his fur being a blue and tan-dilute he does have pattern baldness and will be prone to sunburn and in the winter be colder than others dogs and would have to wear coats and sweaters. In the summer it is best to have a t-shirt on him if he is out in the sun much. But with all this do not let this stop you from adopting this sweet boy.
Our must haves for Gunter are:
- fenced in yard a must
- another younger to adult well socialized dog for Gunter to hang with NO big dogs he's never been around them
- someone with having had a breeder dog experience is helpful
- no apartment, high rises or condos, please
When he get settled in, he will follow you every where and be totally devoted to you. What more could you ask for? When the world let’s you down you can always count on Gunter to pick you up.
Think about it, aren’t you ready for that kind of devotion and don’t you deserve it?
============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.
If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.
We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
