BIO:  Honey and Rusty are a special bonded pair and must be kept together—they have been through so much in their lives and  really deserve the perfect loving FOREVER home.  Prior to coming into rescue they spent their days locked in a bathroom for 3 years.   They were then adopted but due to unfortunate family circumstances they are now  back  in rescue.  They are the sweetest pair of senior Doxies—the tails wag when they see you  and  will give lots of doggie kisses.  They are truly lap dogs and  will snuggle with you anytime.  They will be fully vetted and up to date on all shots and medicines.  They are both housetrained—Honey will use a peepee  pad  in the house and due to her age she may have an accident here and there so please take her out on a regular basis.  They both  do well in a crate for  sleep but would love to sleep in the big bed  if given the chance.   They both walk well on a leash and get excited when they see that we will be going on a walk.  They have adjusted very well here with my other dogs so will do well if adopted to someone who has other pets.
Rusty has a bowed back leg that was xrayed  and the vet said it is either a congental  condition or an old injury that healed  that way—he has no problem with it and can walk and run fine.  He is just a total sweetie.
What these two special dogs really need  is their forever home with owners who will love and cherish them in their senior years. They have been here for only a short time and have already stolen my heart—we must find that perfect home for these two-- Are you that special person???
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.

If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, then there will be an additional $35 fee for the Health Certificate required. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.
If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  Please Read Before You Adopt to learn more about transportation options.  If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and Fill Out an Application

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
