BIO:
Ruffles came from Virginia where he was surrendered by his owner because their job required them to travel and they were unable to find anyone to care for him while they were away.
Ruffles might do better as an only dog, and for sure, he is not a candidate to go to the dog parks to meet new dogs, he is wary of them. Ruffles is fine with people just not really sure about other dogs until he’s had time to be with them. He would be fine with kids as long as they respect his space and don’t startle him.
Ruffles will follow you everywhere and is great rider in a car. He would like a fenced yard that he can patrol every day for varmints. He walks great on a leash. Ruffles should not be allowed to do stairs or jump on and off furniture so you’d need to work with him to not do that but to wait until picked up to get on couches or chairs. He’s a smart boy he’ll catch on quick.
Please give Ruffles a chance to have a last forever home and warm your heart. He’s waiting for YOU!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
