After 3 weeks with my foster mommy, I am really getting the hang of going out the doggy door and going to potty on my own.  Plus, I sort of like my little sister, who is my size and submissive.  Thanks for checkin’ in, Johnson!

Hi, my name is Johnson!  My owner passed away and now I need a new family. I had a brother, but he went to another foster home.  My new foster mommy has other dachshunds and most of the time I leave them alone, but sometimes I get grumpy and growl at them if they try to get my toy.  I might be best as an only dog.  I am 11 years old, so my favorite thing to do is just lay around with my human.  I love giving kisses and getting belly rubs.  I'm just 11 pounds too, so I don't take up much space with you on the couch or the bed.  I love sleeping with my human!  I don't move much in bed, I just want to be next to you.  I do well with going outside to potty, if you go outside with me.  If you don't take me often, and go with me, I will potty in the house.  I'm a pretty chill dog, but I don't like cats!  I love going for a ride in the car, as long as it's not in a crate.  Are you willing to give me a chance and let me be your little buddy?

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
