Update 5/10/16
Saban has come a long way in the short time he has been with us. Crate training was a piece of cake and he goes for walks with the other dogs on leash like he has been doing it forever. You would never know he was confined to a bathroom most of his life! He is FAST and will run as fast as he can through the back yard just because he can. We are still practicing going potty outside and he is doing better but it could take a while. Saban is very smart and loves praise and attention, so anything is possible. In just a few short days, he figured out how to open the screen door when he was ready to go in before everyone else. To add to that, Saban is a funny little fellow who doesn’t mind water at all. He will chase the water from a hose, join you in the shower (ready or not!) and stick his whole snout in a bowl of water to search out a morsel of leftover food. Chasing the vacuum is also something that entertains him.
Over the past week, he has gotten to meet a few new people and a full size Collie dog. Saban did great with everyone. He did not bark or snip or act shy, he just wanted to check everyone out along with the other dogs and he was happy. He does not bother the dog savvy cat, but will relentlessly chase the flighty kitty so if you have a cat that will run from a dog, Saban is not the guy for you. He is fast and would give anyone a run for their money. If he would get out, he would be gone so a fenced yard is probably best. He has an undaunted personality as many dachshunds do, but he still loves to snuggle up on the couch with the other dogs for a nap and has plenty of kisses to share with his human. Saban is a little guy with a big personality who is willing to love with all his heart. He just needs someone who is willing to work with him and love him back with their whole heart!
BIO:
My name is Saban and boy do I have a lot to tell you! I lived in a bathroom with my Brother and we were never allowed out. My Brother and I did not like each other much, so we would fight. I am missing a few little spots of fur because of this, but it will grow back. Foster Mommy says I am still a handsome boy! So anyway, AADR came and got me and my Brother and wow have things changed! We went to the vet and got all of our shots and even got our teeth cleaned! Not long after that, my brother and I went to Foster Homes. They thought it would be better if we went to different homes since we do not really get along anyway.
Now I am in my new Foster Home and I am so, so happy! I have Foster Brothers and Sisters and they do not mind me being there at all. There are even these other furry things called cats. I don’t really know what to think of them right now, they are kind of scary, but as I get more comfortable I will check them out better. I can go anywhere in the house I want! Not just the bathroom! I can even go outside! I love to hop through the grass like a bunny when I run (the grass is kind of tall right now) and I can sniff everything. Foster Mommy really likes it if I potty out there too. She says this is something I should do all the time and we are going to practice. I really like Foster Mommy and even though I am not supposed to, I snuck into bed with her my first night there. She would really like for me to sleep in one of the doggy beds that are right next to the big bed. But, she is so nice and so are the other doggies and I get so much attention I just want to be near them all the time! My tail is always wagging and I am game to try anything as long as I am with them. Going for walks is next on our “To Do” list.
So now I am on this big new adventure and my future is so bright I just can’t imagine what could be next! I will have Foster Mommy update you with all the new things I learn. However, if you think you might be interested in adopting me now, or you just have questions, you can visit the AADR website at http://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/ or email Foster Mommy at Decollinss@aol.com. I can’t wait to hear from you!
