BIO:

A little piece of heaven arrived in Sarasota in mid August.  Her name is JOY ... and she lives up to every inch of her name.  She is pure JOY ... inside and out!  JOY’s journey to FL has been long and sometimes painful.  On May 3, AADR received a frantic phone call from a woman who had just witnessed a dachshund being hit by a car.  Thankfully, our president happened to be traveling near the accident’s location and quickly appeared on the scene to rush the injured doxie to a vet.  Fortunately, AADR’s vet was also in the right place at the right time to get our urgent message to return to his office for a seriously injured pet, very likely in need of surgery.

We have no doubt that Guardian Angels were watching over JOY that memorable day ... getting her the help she needed so quickly and expertly saved her life.  The next challenge was to save the rear leg that had been broken and scraped raw while she was dragged behind the car.  Lots of prayers and more guardian angels prevailed ... and thanks to the outstanding medical care from our vet and his staff, JOY was able to keep her leg ... YAHOO!  JOY did have a toe and part of her tail amputated, but that just makes her even cuter!  She also has a slight skip in her step and especially if she is in rush ... then she’ll hold up that leg ... but that certainly isn’t slowing her down one bit!

Since JOY’s journey has taken several months, AADR has decided she needs to be adopted by a family in FL. Her journey needs to end here with a loving forever family.  We also would like her to have another dog to play with since this will keep her active.  Hopefully, we’ll see even more improvement in her gait as her muscles and ligaments stretch and grow stronger.  Since JOY is soooo tiny, we also suggest no small children in her new home.

Here’s the best part ... JOY’s scars are only on the outside!  This is the sweetest, cutest, most loving dachshund you could ever hope to meet!  All the volunteer drivers on her 17 hour transport to FL fell in love with her.  In fact, I’m surprised she wasn’t dog-napped by one of them!  She is VERY smart, too, and gets along just fine with the four other doxies in her foster home.  She loves having someone to play with when she’s not sitting in your lap!

If you live in FL and have another small young dog, please go to www.AllAmericanDachshundRescue.org and fill out an adoption application from the left hand side of the page.  A fenced in yard where she could freely romp with another dog is what we’re hoping for, too.  If you have further questions, please contact JOY’s foster mom (Meg) meg1709@comcast.net   Thank you for considering rescue for adoption.  JOY is truly a JOY ... don’t miss out on this little one, but do understand her foster mom is going to be VERY tough in picking the PERFECT adopter for JOY!

=============== Information for all dogs/adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 Fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of $45.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another $50.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please visit the Adoption Information.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Joy......FL

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
