Scruffy came from a rural shelter in AR where he was picked up as a stray. His teeth were horrible and some were even missing but we have him all fixed up now, besides who needs a mouth full of teeth when you have a personality like Scruffy? Scruff just motors along, happy to see everyone and he especially loves it if you’re sitting so he can climb in your lap for a nap BUT if you’re busy about the house he’s just as happy to watch you from a doggie bed or couch. Oh, and did we say he loves to be out in the yard with you even if it’s just for you to check out the grass to see if it’s growing any or looking for that first snow flake? He will be right there with you experiencing life’s pleasures! We are not sure how Scruffy would do with a cat, possibly fine if the cat was dog savvy. Kids over 10 that are quiet and respectful of animals would be great. Fenced yard would be good but not mandatory for Scruffy as long as you were willing to take a little walk or walks to smell the flowers. We know he had a family out there somewhere but for whatever reason they gave him up. Please let your home be his last - think about adopting this sweet sweet boy. He deserves it!

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
