BIO:

Rusty is an extremely Great dog just looking for his second chance to have a home of his very own.  Rusty loves playing with you and his toy, which he will let you throw and will bring back for as long as you can.   After all that playing he is very content to lie in your lap and enjoy your attention.  Rusty likes to go for walks, rides in the car good, loves to meet other dogs at the park and when ready for bed just tell him bed give him his treat and in his crate he goes. Rusty is house trained and crate trained.

Rusty was rescued from a Kill Shelter where he was surrendered when a good Samaritan found him running around a college campus.  We don’t know his history but being his foster mom Rusty is a great dog.   He is very much an attention hound; he so desires being the center attention.  It is apparent he has had some attention because of his experience on commands, playing with toys and walking on a leash.  When invited to the big bed while we watch T.V. he is a big ham wanting to be next to you.  In Rusty’s foster home he gets along with 2 cats and 3 other doxies.   I feel that he would be a great pet for a family with children age 5 or higher.  He has A LOT of love to give and just wants a Furever home of his own!!!

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
