BIO:

This little girl is just amazing. She spent the first 2 years of her life as a breeder in a puppymill, never given the opportunity to run, play or experience the kindness of a human's touch. No squeaky toys, warm blankets to snuggle in or special treats when she's been an especially good girl.  When All American Dachshund Rescue heard about Audra her fate was about to change. She was rescued and transported to Tennessee where she was fully vetted, immunized and given a clean bill of health.

It's been truly exciting to be a part of her journey-watching her learn to live in a home with humans and foster siblings, who adore her. She is very smart and collects random toys during the day, tucking them into corners and between cushions. At night she retrieves them to play without them being stolen back by her foster siblings (who are fast asleep)! Clever little pup?!

Audra is such a work in progress, needing special attention and understanding to reach her full potential.

Audra is high energy, which is understandable since she finally has freedom to run and jump! Crating isn't her favorite place to be, but she does very well confined to a room or xpen while we're at work. She continues to experience new encounters every day, and, although somewhat timid at first, she adapts with consistent, positive reinforcement.

Audra will need a fenced yard with plenty of room to run & explore and a sibling (or more - she does well with multiple siblings) to play with.

If you are a patient and positive person who has lots of love to share, please consider Audra. You might just be the person to complete her journey to her forever home.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
