BIO: Two years ago Waldo was bailed out of a rural animal shelter after spending several months there. He was quickly adopted and thought he had a forever home, but was recently returned when his owners could no longer care for him. Waldo has a beautiful wavy black coat with tan trim. His hair looks a bit short in the pictures because it is still growing out from a summer hair cut. He recently had his teeth cleaned and lost a few, but the rest are gleaming white. He passed his health check with flying colors.
Waldo is a sweet and funny little fellow. He likes to hang out in a bed near the window, in his crate, or in a lap. At times he can be very peppy and enjoys walks and brief romps with his toys or the other dogs in the house. Waldo is very good natured and would be fine with children who understand that they must be gentle with a small dog. He has not been around cats, but with his laid back personality would probably be fine. He gets along well with the other dogs in the house, both male and female. Waldo does not see very well in low light, but gets around fine outside and in a well lit room. Even in the dark once he gets to know the layout you would never know he didn't see well. Waldo is pretty well housebroken, but needs to go out a few times during the day. He will use a pee pad or wear a belly band if you are not home to take him out. He can go all night with no accidents. At night Waldo sleeps quietly in his bed snuggled with his 3 favorite stuffed animals. He would probably be fine sleeping with his people too.
If you are looking for a handsome, easy-going little buddy, Waldo is your man!

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
