BIO:

Rusty was turned in from a breeder in SC and is such a sweet and handsome little boy that is ready to blossom with his forever home. Rusty is well socialized and has a loving, gentle, and friendly personality. He gets along well with his foster siblings, both male and female, and enjoys his people too. He hasn't been cat tested, but he's young and should have no problem adjusting to a feline friend. Rusty is doing very well with his house manners and will need a schedule to continue his exemplary house manners. He is crated at night and while mom is away with very little or no protest.

A home with older children that know how to handle a very small boy is best. Rusty is a VERY small and VERY long boy! Rusty is eating a nutritious diet to improve the quality of his coat and to help him put on a little weight. He's a good eater and should be around 9-10 pounds. He's fully vetted and will be ready for a forever home at the end of September. If you have questions or would like additional pictures, email his foster mom, Stephanie: smburmei@comcast.net.

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
