BIO

Hi there!  I’m Waldi and I am cute as a button, but you can see that from my pictures.  My mom was a Bichon and my dad was a Dachshund, or was it the other way around?  I dunno, but I’m one handsome fella either way, most folks say I look like a wire haired dachshund, only soft.  I grew up in a house with LOTS of dogs, there wasn’t much food and no one ever picked me up and loved me.  Because of that, I’m pretty scared of people and being held.  I am starting to love my foster mom and dad though!

Waldi is one of the Madison 9 and needs someone with patience and understanding who will continue to show him that people are kind and loving.  He has made lots of progress here, but he is still a work in progress.  He does not ask to be held unless he is riding in the car.  He does not ask to go outside, but he will potty outside if kept on a schedule.  He LOVES toys and enjoys playing outside with his foster brothers and sisters.  He does not do well on a leash so a fenced yard is a must.  He loves to sleep with the pack in the big bed, and will sometimes snuggle up to his foster parents.

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
