BIO:
My name is Joey, everyone says I am such a handsome boy but there is more to me than my looks.  I’m actually quite a sensitive guy and some things really scare me.  It takes me a while to trust people because when I was young I was never introduced to too many humans and was never taken anywhere; so how was I supposed to learn that new people are nice?  This has caused me some trouble so I really hope the family that adopts me will have patience and I promise I am worth it.

Foster Mom has two cats and I REALLY like to chase them, it is so much fun and I even tried to climb their tree to get the big yellow cat but couldn’t get beyond the branches, I’m telling you, if I could have gotten a hold of that kitty!  Dachshunds are hunters, some just more than others.  I do live with other dogs, both boys and girls and we all get along just great; those cats though, if I could just get my paws on them!  I prefer to just hang out close to my Foster Mom and don’t mind the other dogs much at all.

I have gone on a few outings with my Foster Mom, most of the time everyone wants to pet me but she asks them not to because I am not used to new people yet.  BUT, I went to one store with her, this store was small and not so many people, the nice lady there gave me treats and that was great!  So if you love dachshunds and have patience, please email my foster mom and ask her about me.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
