BIO

Pumpkin has been more cautious with sharing her trust.  She has allowed us to earn her trust and has rewarded us with a show of affection that rivals that of her sister Cupcake.  The others seem to look to Pumpkin and Jake for direction.  Pumpkin is quiet yet as she’s adjusted to her new environment, has become more comfortable approaching us for love and affection.  She’s a confident girl who will reward her forever family with devotion and love.

Pumpkin’s adorable little family of four was placed in a drop off box in Florence, Alabama.  AADR rescued this little family from that shelter.  They have Dachshund in them yet the faces also show some Chihuahua (size of the head and some eye formation).  Their legs are a bit longer than a Chihuahua and definitely longer than a dachshund’s so there is another breed in there somewhere.  They will likely grow to be about 15 pounds; all are small framed.  The full litter consists of: Pumpkin, Cupcake, Jake and Watson.

They use the dog door and are crate trained.  It’s difficult to do one-on-one training now because of schedule demands outside of fostering.  They are all very bright and will train quickly if given consistent training and positive reinforcement.

Puppies need lots of attention and interaction, therefore the best forever family is one that will be home a majority of the time.  A fenced yard or fenced dog park for exercise is a must.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
