BIO:

Meet Holly! She was born on Christmas Day and is a little spitfire. Holly can be shy with new people, but warms up quickly and loves to snuggle. She has a beautiful short red coat and sweet disposition. She loves run and play outside, but her favorite thing to do is curl up in a lap and take a long nap.

Holly had back surgery in July of 2010 but has healed up wonderfully.  She still has a small limp at times but gets better each day.  The vet said the surgery was a complete success. She is an indoor dog and will need a fenced yard, and, to prevent another injury to her back, does not need to be around small children. Holly loves to sleep in the bed with you and share a pillow. She's housebroken and does well in a crate when left alone.

Holly's previous family regrets having to give her up; however, they are concerned for her safety around their small toddler.

More about Holly

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
