When JD first arrived, he was skinny and had a cough. Turned out to be kennel cough and a collapsed lung. After medication and an IV, he’s turned around 100%. Healthy, happy, and a good weight. He didn’t have a name when he arrived so JD stands for John Doe. He’s learned this name and responds to it, but probably not attached to it. JD gets along with all the other animals in the house, including a cat and some puppies. JD is the favorite for the puppies to play with. He is playful and gentle and patient with puppy aggression. JD, himself, has exhibited no negative aggressions of any type, including food, strangers, or taking things away from him. JD was recently neutered and that has stopped his “marking” tendencies. JD likes to burrow under a blanket and sleeps wherever he finds a blanket, including his own bed, the sofa and the floor. We’ve not had a necessity to crate him, so don’t know his reaction to that. This is a good tempered dog who so far likes every person and animal that he has met. He does enjoy a good bark, when neighborhood cats come around. Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.
If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, then there will be an additional $35 Fee for the Health Certificate required. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE. If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. Please Read Before You Adopt to learn more about transportation options. If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and Fill Out an Application.
More about JD...CA
Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
