Little Joey is a darling, and sure to be adopted very quickly. He is just 6 weeks old, so needs to stay a couple more weeks with his mom. But it could take that long to get his new lucky family approved and than arrange for them to get him. His mom, Kayla was one of 19 dogs, turned into an Arkansas shelter when their owner died suddenly. No one realized Kayla was pregnant, until shelter workers came in on a Monday morning to find her with 3 puppies. One had already died. They just weren't set up for newborns, and so they called AADR right away. Still another puppy sadly died within a week, with their foster family. But Joey thrived! And mom, poured all her love and attention on him. He is beautiful, playful and friendly. Mom, is a lovely example of the breed. We have no reason to think that Joey is anything but a purebred dachshund. Although, we can't be sure. Joey will need to go to a home that will be committed to housetraining and teaching him how to grow up to be a good dog.No small children under 5. He will make a fantastic addition to any family willing to housebreak him, and teach him everything a good puppy needs to know! He's off to a great start, because he loves people! His little tail just wags all the time. He got his name because my son, loves to carry him around tucked in his robe in the morning, like a baby kangaroo!
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
