BIO UPDATE (10/3/19):  We have finally found a technique that works with Jonah and are able hold him and cuddle while watching TV.  He seems to really enjoy the attention and will almost always nap after just a few minutes of enjoying some loving.

We keep him in a small pen in the living room where he can feel safe and we can easily pick him up.  Jonah is still very skittish and will run from you if he has the run of the house.  At night he sleeps in a doggy bed next to the big bed.  Once he learns to trust his humans, he is going to be a great dog!  We took him for grooming and he seemed to enjoy the car ride on the passenger's lap!

He still will not walk on a leash and would prefer just to chew through it.  We are still working on this.  Jonah is a work in progress, but has come a long way quickly once we figured out what would work for him.

If you have the patience and understanding to work with him, the bond you will share will be like none other.  We are looking for a special home for this guy.  We will continue to update as he grows into a confident, loving doggy.

BIO UPDATE (8/27/19):  Just a quick update about Jonah’s progress.  He is still not sure of people, but loves to be around the other dogs.  He becomes more active at night when things settle down.  While we sleep at night, Jonah likes to run around and collect toys, bones, socks, shoes or whatever he feels like getting his little paws on, and taking them to his spot.  He does not destroy anything, he is just a collector!

We are still working on socializing with him and believe in time he will be a nice little companion.  He is always watching us interact with the other dogs and seems very interested.  Jonah is just a handsome, low-key little guy that is trying to figure out how to be a part of a pack which includes interaction with humans!

BIO (7/28/2019):  AADR rescued Jonah from a hoarding situation in East Tennessee.  He is very good with other dogs, but does not yet trust people.  With some time, patience and love, we believe Jonah could become a great little dog.

  • Loves Other Dogs
  • Very Skittish
  • Fenced Yard is a Must

He does use the doggy door and potty pads.  He is not crate trained but is happy gated in a room or area, and he is not yet leash trained.  With the help of another well-adjusted dog and a patient human family, Jonah will learn to be a “real” dog and watching him grow is one of the most rewarding things a person could experience.  We will update as we start to see Jonah’s personality shine through.

More about Jonah in IN

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults, Requires a yard

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
