BIO (8/1/2018):  Boomer came from TN where his original owner traded him to another man for something and that man then was caught by a Good Samaritan kicking him.  So the Good Samaritan convinced the man to turn him over to her.  She then reached out to us.  What a sweet, sweet boy he is!  He was very scared when he first came to us and has gotten better but when he goes to his new home, he’ll need to learn to trust you and you’ll need to give him the time and space to trust you.  He loves the man of the house and follows him all over.  While he likes foster mom, dad is his favorite.

Boomer really does need a fenced yard and another younger dog to play with.  We don’t think cats would be a good idea.

When we were vetting Boomer we discovered that even as young as he is, he is heartworm positive (no clinical signs).  He is going through treatment and will be ready to go to his forever home the first weekend in September.

If you are looking for a handsome boy and are willing to earn his trust, then please put in an application for him.  He will be an excellent pet for anyone willing to help him get over his trust issues!  Being he’s so young, this will be easy to fix.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
