BIO UPDATE (9/7/2018):  So, it has been a couple of months and I am still in Foster Care, but that is OK!  I have had a couple of nice people apply to adopt me, just one problem, they have stairs.  You see, I am just not comfortable being picked up and I really should not do stairs!  Foster Mommy decided we should probably let people know that it would be best for me to go to a home with few or no stairs.  I am also very smart, so if you think you can use a free-standing gate or just prop one up, I will figure a way through!  I have even been known to “break out” my Foster Siblings from their gated area!  Foster Mommy says next I will be opening doors!

I sure do like to go bye-bye for car rides!  It is important to keep me tethered in the seat though, for both your safety and mine.  I get really excited and can’t decide which window to look out of!  Anything to do with spending time with my Foster Family, I’m in!  I want to be included in everything!  Is there room in your home to include me and keep me and love me forever?

BIO UPDATE (8/15/2018):  Hi!  It’s me, Rusty.  Foster Mommy said I should update everyone about how I’ve been getting along in my Foster Home.

First, I would just like to say that I like being a part of a pack.  I really like having my Foster Brothers and Sisters around and I enjoy playing with my Foster Sister.  We don’t play for a long time, but it is fun to romp around for a few minutes.  Of course, we stop as soon as Foster Mommy gets the camera out to try to video us.

Since I am not crate trained, and I’m such a good boy, I don’t have to go in a crate when we are left alone.  I keep an eye on things both inside and out while everyone is away.  I’ve learned to open the blinds so I can see better and make sure all is well.  Foster Mommy says she just wishes I’d learn to close them!

I love, love, love sleeping in the big bed at night.  Even the kitty will come and sleep with us too.  I don’t mind her at all.  Foster Mommy says I’m such a good boy and that I am going to make someone a GREAT little doggy!  I’ve got my paws crossed that I won’t have to wait much longer for my Furever Family.

BIO:  Rusty found himself in rescue after his owner passed away and no one else was able to keep him.  He is a very sweet little man who takes just a little time to warm up to strangers.  Once he knows you, he will be your little shadow and a lap dog!

We are looking for a home where Rusty would never have to be boarded.  He does not do well in that kind of environment.  He also needs a home with a securely fenced yard.  While he does not seem to dig, he will bolt if he finds an opening.  The same is true for people coming and going through the entrances of the home.

Rusty has not been crate trained and does just fine in the home while you are away.  He will just sleep the time away in a comfy chair or couch.  He also prefers to sleep in the big bed with his human(s) at night.  So far, he is not the typical dachshund bed-hog type, but he loves to snuggle down next to you.  While Rusty is not a fan of being picked up, he will allow you to do so just to be able to sleep with you.

He gets along very well with both male and female dogs, as well as the cat.  He does not mind sharing your lap or even being at the bottom of a “puppy pile” while you all lounge together.  Rusty has a BIG bark for a small boy!  No one would ever guess it was a dachshund barking behind that door!

Car rides and French Fries are among his favorite things.  Rusty is just a sweet, laid back dog who needs a loving forever home.  Could that be you?

Please contact the Foster Family at Decollinss@aol.com with any questions.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
