BIO:  Hi, Ryder here!  My Foster Mom and Foster Dad (FM and FD) thought I should write about myself so I could find my furever home.  They said it will be a place to call my own with lots of toys, a comfy couch, and someone for me to love!

Where I live now it has a really long hallway for me to run down.  I love to run really fast... FM said that I could win the Wiener Race at German Festival, that is how fast I am!

I share my foster home with a Westie and Collie.  They are both seniors and don’t want to play.  I sure wish they would, because I love to play.  I would love to have another playful dachshund or high energy small furkid to play with.  I sure don’t act my age.  My FD says it must be a guy thing.  Whatever.

Once I wear myself out, I become a couch potato.  I’ll snuggle right up to you, ease my way onto your lap, and try to keep things away from you.  I’m very protective of my FM.  I will love you very much and put my face close to yours, but I won’t kiss you.  I’m such a tease!

I walk well on a leash, until I don’t want to go where you want me to go, but with a little coaxing I relax and we can go on our merry way.  It’s my way of making sure you know I’m still here.  I’m very stealthy, I’ve only barked twice, once was to go out and the other was when I couldn’t find anyone.

I could become an investigator, if I ever get tired of being a furkid.  I love to see what is inside of everything.  I also keep the yard clear of all minions.  I have keen eyesight and can see them in the woods.  If my humans would only give me a chance, I would rid the neighborhood of those rascals.  My FM holds really tight to my leashes so that I don’t get away.

Have you ever gotten scared in a dark room, or with a light behind a person and they look like a huge monster?  Me too!  I don’t know about you, but I run backwards, keeping a safe distance.  Then the monster gets close to the ground and says in a soft calming voice, “It’s alright Ryder, its only mommy.”  Hahaha, I knew that all along.

Oh, I almost forgot, I come when I am called.  I’ve learned "stop", and I’m working on "sit" and "shake".  I’m potty trained too, but you have to learn my secret signal, or there will be a mess.

Ryder signing off, I’ve got to go to sleep in my kennel.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
