BIO:  Rusty came from NC where his family dumped him at a shelter after having him since he was a puppy because HE needed too much attention.  How sad is that?  Rusty is a wonderful boy who just wants to be with his people and is happy to follow you around all day.  He gets along with other dogs his size but possibly not the little ones under 10 pounds.  Bigger dogs we are not sure about.  Rusty’s more into following you or being in your lap.  He would be a great companion for a retired single person or couple.

Cats…no, birds or rodents…no.  He’s a Dachshund after all.

Please give this boy his greatest wish, which is to be in his last forever home.  You’ll be getting a great dog!!

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults, Leashtrained, Cratetrained, Affectionate

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
