BIO: Maggie was dumped at a shelter in TN with a broken leg and we found out she also had Cushing’s. Because her broken leg had been broken for at least 2-3 weeks before receiving treatment, the surgeon was not sure the break would heal. But he put a screw and plate in the leg and after several months of very restricted movement her leg has indeed healed and she can walk and put all her weight on the front leg. It was touch and go if we might not have to amputate the leg but thanks to the wonderful surgeon and the foster mom’s dedication to helping her to heal, she is just fine. The only thing she can’t do is jump off furniture (which dachshunds should not do anyway). We are so very happy for Maggie and now we can find her a forever home. Because of Maggie’s circumstances the foster mom is going to be very careful who gets to adopt Maggie.
Maggie will need to be on Vetoryl for the rest of her life due to the Cushing’s but she only takes 10ml once a day and would need to be ACTH stem tested once to twice a year to make sure she stays on the right dosage of Vetoryl.
Maggie would love to have a fenced in yard. She can be adopted to a family without a fence but she does have to be on a leash at all times then.
Maggie would do better in the home of a retired person(s). She does prefer the foster mom to the dad but would be fine with either. No cats, she does not like them.
If you are looking for a loyal companion that just wants to be with you and follow you around then look no further, Maggie is waiting for you. Her meds cost approximately $50.00 per month and nothing further will need to be done with the leg that was broken and has healed. Please consider Maggie. She is a wonderful little girl.
