BIO:  My name is Jewel #2 and I am 7 months old.  I was one of eight pups dropped off in a box in front of Orange County Animal Control in North Carolina.  AADR took all eight of us and placed each of us in a foster home.  Now here I am in Michigan and the weather is turning colder and snow will be here before you know it.

My Foster Mom has lots of other Dachshunds for me to interact with.  I am learning to play, run freely in a secured fenced in yard, and I love going in/out the doggie door when I want to go outside.  My Foster Mom says I’m a little too bossy and am a “spit fire” ball of energy.  I like to bark at squirrels and the dogs next door every chance I get!  I am very friendly and enjoy being around humans.  I jump on laps for hugs and attention and love sleeping in the BIG bed at night.  My Foster Mom doesn’t like it when I wake her up before it’s time to get up - I have so much energy that I’m ready to play before the sun comes up!

I have no food or fear aggressions, nor submissive urination.  I need more house training but I love going in/out of a doggie door to a big fenced in back yard.  I can run freely and chase the leaves as they blow by.  I love to chew on things that lay around in sight.  My Foster Mom has bones all over to help me chew on safe things and not be destructive.

I am looking for my forever home... a family with the patience to help a young puppy grow to be a great family pet.  A fenced yard would be nice and another little doxie to play with would be even better!  I need a family that will help me learn my social skills, and teach me all the “doggie” things I need to learn.

AADR wants what’s best for me.  I still need work on my social skills.  Open up your heart and home to me and I will learn to love you and be your BEST FRIEND FOREVER given the chance!

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
