Magee has been on the front page of the All American Dachshund Rescue website for a few months now raising funds for his medical expenses. Please go there and read all about Magee and his story. Magee is a beautiful black and tan smooth estimated to be about 6 years old and weighs 12 pounds. It is very important that the person or family who adopts him must have the discipline to keep his weight constant. His rear leg cannot support very much weight. Magee has the most wonderful personality and the softest velvety fur. After all that he has been through he remains one of the best dogs to come into his foster home. He is great around other dogs, even the large ones. He hasn’t met anyone that he didn’t like. He would be good with children but because of his situation he will only be placed with older children. He has never been around cats that we know of so just to be one the safe side a home without one would be best. Magee needs a home with a fenced in backyard for Magee to sun himself in. Also Magee cannot be leash walked due to his leg. Magee has been going through physical therapy with his leg and at this point the vet feels it’s the best it’s going to be. He still will hop when he is in hurry but when he slows down he does put pressure on that leg. Magee is 100% housebroken but use to a doggie door. Magee would like a home where he can cuddle up on a big fluffy chair or in a warm lap. As every dachshund lover knows they love to burrow under covers and Magee is no exception. At night he will want to sleep in the bed with you snuggled really close under the covers.
Magee is a healthy little boy who has recently been neutered and brought current on his vaccines. He is on heartworm and flea preventative. He has had his teeth cleaned and is crate trained.
If you can offer a safe haven and would like a lifetime of unconditional love then consider adopting Magee. Please e-mail his foster parents at oscarbcsg@sprintmail.com or fill out the on-line adoption application and specify you are interested in Magee.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
