AADR is a non-profit 501(c)(3) volunteer based organization. We work tirelessly to save homeless Dachshunds and place them into loving, forever families.
Bandit is a purebred cream soft wire little love ball!
Bandit is a retired breeder dog from North Carolina looking for his forever home - one that is patient and will give him time to settle into being a pet.
After only one week, Bandit has become part of the pack. He loves playing with toys and his foster brother. (Check out his video from this link below.) It took him only a week to adjust to his foster home and he is getting even more comfy each day. He cuddles and loves to get kisses. Bandit did sleep in the crate the first few nights but started crying around 5:30 am. He currently sleeps in the bed with us and does great. He sleeps in late and barely moves around except to give more cuddles and kisses. Leash training is still a task, and some days are better than others.
Bandit continues to do well in foster care. He loves to play and chase his foster brother, so a playmate is a must! He does love to bark, like many Dachshunds do. He still gets nervous if you reach down when standing up, but he is doing so much better every day. Take a chance with this cutie, and you won't be sorry!
Our must-haves for adorable little guy include:
- A fenced yard
- Another young, small dog that is well socialized so he can learn from them
- Someone with patience or breeder dog experience who understands it is going to take time to trust and adjust
- A single-family home only
- Someone who could be home more than not
If you meet all these requirements and want to adopt, please go to our website and apply online. Bandit is a handsome guy, so don’t wait! See additional photos and details about Bandit on his pet page, here!

Are you up for lots of 18 months old Tobi-Zoomies?
Tobi came from Maryland when his owner had to work too many hours to give him the time he needed, so they contacted us to help find him a home.
Tobi loves toys to the point that he will protect them, so if you have another dog, there could be a scuffle over the toys. Tobi, however, would also good as an only dog if you work from home or are a stay-at-home person.
It’s important that you can keep up with his energy level because he loves zoomies and playing catch when you throw the ball - just don’t expect him to bring it back, you have to work for it! He is young so keep in mind you have to be young enough to keep him happy. Could that be you? Maybe you need a jogging buddy?
Tobi is good with strangers as long as the proper introductions are made. He doesn’t really care for a man with a hat on.
Tobi does have some separation anxiety, which is why he may do better with a younger small dog to play with and keep him company if you do have to go out.
Our must-haves for adorable Tobi include:
- A fenced yard
- Someone who is home more often than not
- A submissive young small female dog to play with and pal around with
- No apartments, condos, townhomes, or high-rises; shared walls would not be good
If you meet all these requirements, please go to Tobi's Pet Page, here, to see more about him and fill out our online adoption application.

They say Aces are wild. Your buddy, Ace, is just a young, energetic goof-ball full of love!
Little Ace was returned to the breeder due to him snapping at the buyer's small child. Now in our care, he is fine with adults, but no children under 10 yrs of age.
At almost 2 years old, he does play rough with other dogs - he IS a goof ball. He would either need to be an only dog or go to a home with a mellow female young dog that can tolerate rough play.
He does love to be cuddled and will settle down in your lap, but he is not one that will sit in your lap all day! We've got to keep this sweet boy thriving - only active younger adults with children 10 and older please apply.
His must haves are: - Fenced in yard - Another small to medium young dog for him to play with or he can be an only dog only if you are willing to play with him - Someone home more than not - No condos, high rises or apartments due to possible barking
If you are interested in knowing more about Ace fill out our online adoption application and we’ll be happy to talk to you about this youngster. You can see addition information and picture of Ace by visiting his personal pet page here!

We have Dachshunds at our Halfway House not yet listed on this site: Some of our rescued dogs just aren't ready for adoption yet, usually due to the need for care of medical attention. If we don't currently have "your" special dog consider filling out an applicaton anyway. We will process your application so you will be pre-approved when your special dog does come in. This way, you won't have to wait when you see the Dachshund you want, and he or she will be in your home before you know it! If you don't see any Dachshunds in your exact location, don't let that discourage you! We have members and supporters all over the country which allows us to have a wonderful volunteer transportation system. We will make our best effort to work with you on getting that special Dachshund as close to you as possible!
