BIO:  Prince is the perfect name for this little guy.  What do we know about him…not much?  He came to us after his peoples decided they didn’t want this little young gentleman in their lives anymore.  Oh well, that was their loss and not his.  Prince came to us with a look of love and understanding that is hard to resist any time.  His sweet little face is just looking up at you like he is saying, “All I want to do is be your buddy and give you lots of loves and kisses”.  He is a puppers than can go from lounging on your lap or in his little bed, to bouncing and ready for an exploring walk around the neighborhood.  He demonstrates a very mellow approach to everything, well that is except feeding time.  We feed Mr. Prince in his own area just to make sure that there are no misunderstandings of whose food is whose.  This keeps him and his foster brother getting along great.  They have had few discussions on who gets to carry the sockies around during the day, but that just turned into a session of two doxies walking around, each holding an end of the sock (wish I had the camera for that one).  When its bed time; he prefers to snuggle into his blankets on his doggie bed on the floor next to you.  He is not really fond of digging under the covers, mostly due to his long hair (“Come on folks, I have to wear a fur coat all year around, it gets warm sometimes”).  He does really great with any of the folks that have come over to the house and has yet to meet a stranger.

Prince would do great with a fenced in yard to go out and sun in and play in.  He is a little dasher, so if your door gets opened make sure to have the leash on him and under control.  He feels it is his duty to get to the exploring as soon as he can and you might not be moving fast enough.   Since he came from a home that didn’t take a lot of time on housebreaking we are teaching him that it is the outside where he needs to do his business.  He is doing pretty well, but this is something that takes time and patience to teach and his is making rapid progress on this.  He loves morning, afternoon, and evening belly rubs and will allow you the privilege of doing this as often as you want.  The only thing he asks for in return is the chance to be your buddy and love you back.  This little man needs someone to help him make up for all the love and attention he has missed so far.  He has tons of  love to give back in return and you would be the one to get more than you gave if you could open your home and heart to this sweet little guy.

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
